THOSE who got a furry friend as a present for Christmas are being reminded by the Gold Coast City Council to get their dog registered.

Deputy Mayor Donna Gates enjoys exploring the Gold Coast with her pet Yogi and she has a simple message to those who became dog owners over the festive season.
“Adding an animal to your family at Christmas is a wonderful experience, but it comes with responsibility,” Cr Gates said.
“It’s important to make sure your dog is registered and microchipped. This is the best way to ensure we can reunite you with them if they are ever lost.
“We are a dog loving city so it’s important we all do the right thing.”
The City Council is reminding Gold Coast dog owners to make sure their pet’s identifiable details are up to date, to have secure fencing with a lockable gate and not to leave your pet unattended for long periods of time.
Residents are also being reminded no dogs are allowed within 200m of a flagged bathing area or inside a children’s playground, to ensure your dog is always on a leash in public unless in a designated off leash area and don’t let dogs in environmentally sensitive areas to help protect our native wildlife.
The City Council has provided the top 10 dog breeds according to their records of registered pets on the Gold Coast.
