Australia’s richest woman, Gina Rinehart, has inadvertently emerged in the most unlikely of places – in the background of an Instagram photo posted by Donald Trump’s son Eric.
Eric Trump posted the snap with his wife Lara on Wednesday while at the palacious Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida where his father announced his 2024 presidential bid.
But in between the happy couple was none other than Ms Rinehart in what must be one of the most surprising photobombs in recent memory.
It comes just after Ms Rinehart dominated headlines in Australia when her mining company, Hancock Prospecting, dumped a $15 million sponsorship deal with Netball Australia after some players were hesitant to accept the company’s backing over comments made by her father, Lang Hancock, about Aboriginals in the 1980s.
Indigenous player Donnell Wallam, who was set to debut for the Australian national team, was said to be uncomfortable wearinga uniform with the logo.
While it was unknown Ms Rinehart was at Mar-A-Lago for the historic occasion, she has previously voiced her admiration for Mr Trump.
In 2016 she urged the Australian government to adopt stimulatory policies being promised by then president-elect Trump or risk falling into debt.
“People close to the president-elect and his campaign advised that their countrymen told them they wanted, firstly, less government tape, secondly less taxation, and for the USA to grow and be economically strong again, and provide more sustainable jobs,” she said in a speech at the time.
“And how exciting, this is exactly what the president-elect, and his team, are advising they want to deliver for America and its struggling economy.”
