An organisation headquartered in Geelong is promoting wellbeing among female tradies with a series of free workshops.
Tradeswomen Australia is facilitating online classes in pilates, yoga and mindfulness to help mental health amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Hamlyn Heights 24-year-old Tammy Vos is an electrician and general manager of TTS Electrics, a local company started by her dad.
Ms Vos said heading into the industry was “daunting” at first as a female, but it just took time to build herself up.
She said the wellbeing classes were a good initiative.
“It’s always good to do stuff for your own mental health outside the trade,” Ms Vos said.
“Being surrounded by males and doing a lot of labouring it’s good to do your own thing as well.”
Tradeswomen Australia has launched a new campaign as the impact of COVID-19 shutdowns start to bite.
Fiona McDonald, managing director of Tradeswomen Australia said ‘Operation Protect and Preserve’ targets the protection of apprentices from the loss of their apprenticeships, or having the apprenticeship interrupted for a long period, which may result in them forfeiting their chosen career as they are forced to pursue work in other areas.
Ms McDonald said a range of events will be available on the website to address ongoing concerns from apprentices by supporting their mental health, and safety and resilience during these distressing times.
Meditation classes are scheduled for September 10 and 17.
