A DRUNK driver — who was once filmed on TV show Territory Cops describing being arrested as “f**king sick” — has celebrated her release from custody on a suspended sentence.

Mollie Rachael Bruce, 21, yesterday pleaded guilty in Darwin Local Court to reckless driving, running a red light and failing to provide a breath test early on Australia Day.

Prosecutor Mark Seiler said Bruce led police on a chase through the Darwin CBD.

At one point, she did four laps of the Daly St roundabout. He said there was nothing “other than alcohol” that could explain Bruce’s actions.

The court heard at two points during the chase, Bruce came within centimetres of hitting police.

When questioned by police, Bruce said: “I’ll stab you in the head 35 times.”

Lawyer Melissa Chen, for Bruce, said her client was “embarrassed” by the broadcast of her previous drink driving arrest. “It was quite an ... awful experience for her,” Ms Chen said. Her lawyer added Bruce was distressed at spending Wednesday night in jail after police caught her in the city in breach of her bail conditions.

Bruce sat quietly in the dock wearing a prison issue orange jumper yesterday, having previously expressed a preference for purple prison garb.

“Do I have to fully go in the orange jumpsuits and sh*t? ... ‘Cause if they got purple ones I’d rather a purple outfit than orange if I had to go to jail,” she said in her drunken appearance on Territory Cops last year. Judge Richard Coates said Bruce’s offending was “disquieting”. “I’m not sure what you thought you were doing on this night,” he said.

“This is terrible driving. The only thing that is saving you from doing a significant period in prison right now is that you’re young and you’ve only got one prior matter before the court.”

Bruce was sentenced to a month’s jail, suspended immediately, and fined $300.

Bruce sprinted out of court and hugged a waiting supporter, screaming, “I got out!”.
