Will Connolly, ‘Egg Boy’, donates nearly $100,000 to Christchurch massacre victims

Months after he gained global headlines for egging former Australian senator Fraser Anning, ‘Egg Boy’ has surprised the world again.

Fraser Anning — Who is this guy?

Australian teenager Will Connolly, better known to the world as “Egg Boy”, has donated nearly $100,000 to the support fund set up for victims and survivors of the Christchurch mosque shootings.

Two GoFundMe pages were set up to cover Connolly’s expected legal fees “and to buy more eggs”, he joked on Instagram, after he cracked a raw egg over the head of former Australian senator Fraser Anning.

The egging came after Anning — who lost his seat in the Senate at the recent election — made highly controversial victim-blaming comments in the wake of Christchurch mosque shootings.

Connolly was taken away by police following the incident which also saw Anning and his supporters retaliate, with one crowd member holding the boy on the ground in a chokehold.

The GoFundMe pages were inundated with donations after Connolly gained wide sympathy for his action.

But after a law firm agreed to act without charge, the teenager effectively had no legal fees to cover, leaving a total of $99,922.36 in the funding accounts.

He announced on social media that he had finally been able to sort out how to donate all of the money to the support fund for the victims of the Christchurch mosque shootings which claimed 51 lives.

“Finally!!! After a huge amount of red tape,$99,922.36 has today been transferred to the Christchurch Foundation and Victims Support,” Connolly said on social media.

“For those of you who don’t know, there were 2 Go Fund Me pages set up to help cover the cost of my legal fees and to ‘buy more eggs’. Gratefully, Gordon Legal acted probono for me so I don’t have any legal fees.

“I decided to donate all moneys to help provide some relief to the victims of the massacre … it wasn’t mine to keep. I want to thank Corey and @sajjad12345 who set up the funds and every single person who donated to the money and made this possible.

“To the victims of the Tragedy, I whole heartedly hope that this can bring some relief to you.

Keep spreading the love.”

After the Christchurch tragedy, then Senator Anning — who lost his seat at the election this month — issued a statement saying: “The real cause of the bloodshed on New Zealand streets today is the immigration program which allowed Muslim fanatics to migrate to New Zealand in the first place.”

Will Connolly was released without charge after being interviewed by police.

Several Australian music groups offered the 17-year-old free concert tickets for life following the egging, including Hilltop Hoods, The Amity Affliction, The Living End and Violent Soho.

‘‘Egg Boy, you have free entry to any Hoods show for life should you wish,’’ Hilltop Hoods wrote on social media.

‘‘If Egg Boy likes Amity he can have free entry +1 to all of our shows forever,’’ Joel Birch from The Amity Affliction posted.
