Labor set to target marginal Queensland seats

The LNP candidate for the state’s most marginal seat has provided false evidence to the electoral commission claiming he lives in his electorate when in fact the address he provided is an abandoned, unfurnished and dilapidated house.

The Australian exclusively revealed that the LNP’s candidate for Lilley Vivian Lobo actually lives in the upmarket Windsor, which is in the neighbouring electorate held by Liberal MP Trevor Evans.

Mr Lobo told the Australian Electoral Commission that he lived in a property in Everton Park, which is in the seat of Lilley.

He has also repeatedly told voters on social media that he is living in Lilley.

When The Australian visited the address that Mr Lobo had provided to the AEC on Thursday the publication found a run-down home that was obviously deserted, with the garden in a state of disrepair and no furniture inside.

One neighbour said the home had been vacant for at least a year.

“We’ve never actually seen anyone living there,” the neighbour told The Australian.

“I don’t know whether they’re selling or taking it down. We’ve seen one of those cars go up there a couple of years ago. I don’t know what’s going on.

“They haven’t actually lived there. I don’t know, they come in and go. That’s about it.”

Registering a false address with the AEC is classified as being “enrolment fraud”, which can carry a penalty of 12 months imprisonment.

“Enrolment fraud occurs if an elector makes a false claim for enrolment, for example using a false name or address,” the AEC’s website states.

Mr Lobo told The Australian on Thursday night that he was intending to move into the property.

Lilley is currently held by Labor MP Anika Wells, with a 0.6 per cent margin.
