Federal election: Queenslanders head to the polls
Peter Dutton says he is confident of retaining his seat of Dickson and that a scare campaign from Labor and Get Up had failed. Follow the latest election day updates from around Queensland.
Federal MP Peter Dutton has admitted that it’s going to be “very close” tonight in his hotly contested marginal seat of Dickson.
“In 2007, we won by 217 votes. This seat had a one-term curse. This is now my sixth election. It would be close,” he told reporters after voting this afternoon.
The federal member for Dickson said the main issues concerning voters in his electorate are education, infrastructure, public transport and border protection.

Dutton said that retirees particularly those who have spent years saving and hold investment properties will suffer under a Shorten government.
