Anthony Albanese has claimed a historic second term of government, becoming the first prime minister to secure consecutive electoral wins since 2004.

In a crushing blow to the Coalition, Opposition Leader Peter Dutton lost his own seat to Labor’s Ali France, giving her success in Dickson at her third attempt.

It’s one of the biggest drubbings for the Coalition for years and the defeats will set off a leadership campaign for the job of Opposition Leader.

The Greens are also struggling. They have actually increased their vote but seemingly in the wrong places with the party set to lose two MPs. Even leader Adam Bandt could be in trouble in his Melbourne set.
