A FORMER bikie boss who allegedly threatened to stab police during a three-hour standoff on the Gold Coast has walked from court on bail.
Brett “Kaos” Pechey appeared in Southport Magistrates Court today facing charges including assaulting police, wilful damage and public nuisance.
Magistrate Donald MacKenzie granted Pechey bail and said it was clear the former Bandidos West End chapter president was suffering mental health issues.
“Before his arrest he consumed a number of prescription drugs, presumably in some form of suicide attempt,” he said.
Court proceedings were adjourned a number of times today while Pechey’s lawyer Campbell MacCallum of Moloney MacCallum Abselshahied Lawyers, attempted to get a medical report from Pechey’s doctor in Western Australia.
The attempts were not successful.
Mr MacKenzie said he was satisfied Pechey had been taking his medication and working to control his mental illness.
The incident involved Pechey allegedly barricading himself in a Gold Coast home armed with swords.
It will be alleged when police tried to approach him the ex-bikie threatened “that he would stab them if they didn’t shoot him”.
About 26 police officers were at the scene trying to negotiate with Pechey.
Police will also allege Pechey threw an ironing board down a flight of stairs and a steel pipe at officers.
Police claim they were only able to detain Pechey after he took prescription drugs which left him semiconscious.
Mr MacKenzie said the 31-year-old’s rate of offending had dropped in the past few years.
“He is subjected to no community based orders or parole,” Mr MacKenzie said.
He said he accepted the incident occurred after his girlfriend, Instagram star Rikki Louise Sutton, was accused of infidelity.
“She believes she has been the subject of harassment from others,” Mr MacKenzie said.
In late February Pechey was linked to an online feud with Ben “Notorious” Geppert, a former Hells Angels and Finks member.
Geppert accused Pechey of being a “dog”, or police informant.
The fight also caused a rift between Pechey’s girlfriend Ms Sutton and her sister Allaina Vader, who is dating Geppert.
Mr MacCallum said Pechey would be disputing the facts of what happened at a later date.
He said Pechey was not a danger or a risk of reoffending.
“The magistrate took the correct approach by ordering him to leave the Gold Coast,” Mr MacCallum said.
“Mr Pechey will be embarking on intensive mental health rehabilitation and taking up employment opportunities in Western Australia.”
Mr MacCallum said Pechey hoped to work in the tyre and auto sector.
Mr MacKenzie placed a number of conditions on Pechey for his release including that he must reside in his Perth home, he only return to Queensland for court appearances, he report three times a week to police in Perth, his doctor provide bimonthly reports about his condition and he comply with all treatment orders from his doctor.
The matter will return to court on April 27.
Pechey will not be required to attend court on that date
