Emergency services on scene after serious crash in Highland Park, Gold Coast with one stuck in car

A man with a leg injury has been released from his car and taken to hospital after the van he was diving in flipped after a horrific crash in the Gold Coast.

A MAN with a leg injury has been released from his car and taken to hospital after the van he was diving in flipped after a horrific crash in the Gold Coast.

Around 2.45pm, two cars collided at the intersection of Hinkler Drive and Pappas Way in Highland Park.

It is understood a ute T-boned the white van, which ran into a set of traffic lights and flipped on its side.

A man in his 40s is encapsulated inside the van and has an injured leg, a Queensland Ambulance Media spokesperson said.

A witness told the Bulletin the injured man had already injured three disks in his back before the crash which assisted trapping him in the van.

He was in the van with his partner and son, who managed to climb out of the top of the van after the crash.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said the man would need to be cut out of the car due to the damage sustained.

Firefighters cut parts of the car away so paramedics could treat the man inside.

One person was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition, another as a precaution while the third person declined assistance.

Critical care paramedics and the High Acuity Response Unit were also on scene while police are helped to direct traffic.

Lights at the intersection are not working and Energex were called.

Motorists are advised to use another route.
