SCORES of Gold Coast residents sacked in the COVID-19 pandemic are being directed to a new online jobs portal.
The Queensland Government’s Jobs Finder Queensland portal connects people who have lost their jobs with new employment opportunities.
Gold Coast MP Meaghan Scanlon said jobseekers give information about their skills, location and work experience and are matched to relevant employers.
“We are seeing demand in a wide range of industries in southeast Queensland, including health, information communication technology and food processing,” the Gaven MP said.
“Any Queenslander, who has been stood down, made redundant or has lost their job due to the COVID-19 crisis can register through the Jobs Finder Queensland portal.
“We will be working with the recruitment and staffing industry body to share information on job seekers to match them to potential opportunities.”
Ms Scanlon said training courses are also available through TAFE Queensland.
“With more Queenslanders staying at home, there’s no better time to look at upskilling and undertaking further training,” she said.
“The Jobs Finder Queensland portal includes access to nine free, short online training courses in a range of valuable skill sets in areas such as food service, health and aged care, transport as well as mental health support. There will also be a range of free short online courses on offer in areas such as digital literacy, cyber security and business.”
The free portal is part of a $4 billion government package to support Queensland residents during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, Ms Scanlon said.
