Coles has issued a refund and apology to thousands of shoppers after they were overcharged on a number of products without knowing.

The supermarket giant said it accidentally raised the price on 20 popular items during a recent sales offer for Flybuys members.

“We incorrectly increased the ticket price of 20 products before the end of the promotional period,” a Coles spokesperson said.

“We know cost of living is the biggest focus for so many of our customers. We sincerely apologise to our customers for this mistake and we are working quickly to make it right.

“As a result of this error, we are refunding the full cost of the items to customers. Coles has processed refunds for customers who used their Flybuys card or purchased through Coles Online. We ask any customer who purchased these items in store to visit our service desk with a receipt for a full refund.

“We are also making arrangements to place these products back on promotion. 8 are currently back at a reduced price and we are making arrangements to place the remaining 12 on promotion for our customers.”

Coles has apologised to customers for the error.

In an email sent to affected customers about the error, Coles said any refunds would be issued to the Flybuys accounts.

“We have identified that you purchased product(s) that were on promotion, and we did not charge you the promotional price,” the email reads.

“We sincerely apologise for the mistake we have made and we have refunded the full cost of the product(s) to your Flybuys card.

“We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
