‘Clowns’: Queensland police minister blasts dangerous rooftop stunt

Queensland’s Police Minister has let fly over “clowns” who captured in wild footage on rooftops on the Gold Coast.

Two daredevils caught in shock footage jumping across the rooftops of Gold Coast apartment buildings have been blasted by Queensland’s Police Minister, labelling the pair “clowns”.

The heart-racing video shows three young men standing on the roof of what appears to be The Sands Apartments, on the Surfers Paradise Esplanade.

Two of the men then run towards the ledge before making the dangerous jump across the chasm to the roof of the St Tropez Apartments, risking falling onto concrete several metres below.

The pair, who make the leap one at a time, manage to land on the roof, performing a jump and roll manoeuvre.

After making the jump, one sprints off, hurling himself up onto another nearby rooftop.

The dangerous act was slammed by Queensland Police Minister Dan Purdie.

“These clowns need to pull their heads in,” Mr Purdie told Channel 10.

“It’s often our frontline services, our police and ambos and hospital workers that have to pick up the pieces and put these people back together.”

Others online also criticised the young men’s actions.

“It’s all fun until it goes fatally wrong,” one person wrote on social media.

“Will cry for help when something happens,” said another.

Queensland Police are investigating the incident and looking to identify those involved.

Officers were called to an address on Orchid Avenue – located opposite The Sands and runs parallel to the Esplanade – in response to a “welfare check” about 3.50pm on Tuesday.

“Initial information provided to police was that two people were observed jumping between buildings,” police said in a statement.

“Officers attended the scene and conducted a search, but those involved had left the scene.”

Anyone with information regarding the identity or whereabouts of the individuals involved are urged to contact police.
