A SOCIAL media campaign designed to pull the heartstrings has been unveiled in a bid to lure past international students back to the region for work or holidays and inspires a new generation to study in the Far North.
Study Cairns will work with Tourism Tropical North Queensland on an initiative celebrating Japanese student alumni success stories.
Study Cairns spokeswoman Janine Bowmaker said the aim was to remind past students of their experience in Cairns and appeal to their emotions in attracting them back again or to encourage other students and tourists.
“The project will raise the profile of the region, increase student engagement and in turn increase numbers to the region and increase our profile as a successful study destination,” she said. “It will form a base from which we can form other similar alumni projects in other countries.”
Study Cairns piloted several student programs last year to offer international students unique learning and work experiences and will roll out work experience programs and a new skills app this year.
“Many of our members are struggling at the moment financially and emotionally as we deal with the crisis at hand, so we did reconsider the timing of the launch of our initiatives,” Ms Bowmaker said.
“However, we are charged with positioning Cairns as a serious study destination and must think of the future.”
Alumni can upload a one-minute video to a social media platform and share with Study Cairns. They are encouraged to tag the post with #cairnsstudystories, #istudiedincairns or #studycairns when uploading their stories.
