The plan follows the success of the ferris wheel’s three-month trial in Cairns from September to November.
The Reef Eye attracted 4000 riders during its first weekend in Cairns and resulted in a total of 65,000 rides by the end of the trial.
The ride is the tallest continuously travelling ferris wheel in Australia, offering 360-degree views through fully enclosed plexiglass-wrapped gondolas.
A council spokesman said the attraction had helped to bring people into the city, with 43 per cent of users identifying as residents in the council area.
