THE draw is complete and the Cairns Post can now reveal every Cairns Regional Council candidate in every division — and what order they will appear on the ballot paper.

Electoral Commission of Queensland officers have finished a blind draw of all candidates’ names in a packed room on Hartley St in Bungalow.

Despite the ECQ previously failing to publish Mayor Bob Manning and Cairns NQSA leader Jen Sackley’s nominations, both were included on the list.

Cr Manning will appear in the top slot on the paper when Cairns residents go to the ballot booths on Saturday, March 28.

Independent candidate Yodie Batzke was celebrating after pulling out pole position in Division 4 ahead of incumbent Deputy Mayor Terry James, the NQSA Team’s Jason Webber and independent Scott Colbran.

“It does make a difference, especially when you have voters who are unsure of the whole voting system,” she said.

“Some refer to it as a donkey vote but I look at it as me being at the top of the ballot paper as a good thing.

“On the day, you’ll have people who have already made up their minds and others who need to make up their minds, and others that don’t care.

“Either way, number one is a good spot.”
