A LOW-KEY dentist office in a suburban shopping centre has been transformed into a new wood-fired pizzeria by the owner of a popular Gold Coast cafe.

Blackboard Varsity Lakes owner Marc Kinvig has teamed with Shayne Green to open T’amerò at Treeview Drive Shopping Centre, Burleigh Waters, next to Mr Green’s Home Plate Kitchen.

Mr Kinvig expects T’amerò, which opens Saturday, will draw quite a crowd as one of the only eateries open in the immediate area.

The father-of-three said T’amerò was designed and would be run with families in mind.

“Shane and I, we live on the street and we’re friends and there was nowhere really for us to go in the community,” he said.

“When the dentist moved into the shop behind I drove past and asked Shayne if he’d like to open a pizzeria.

“I had a good gut-feeling the community around here would jump on it, probably find it really cool to hang out at night-time.

“There’s not really much here. There’s heaps of young families, but if you want to grab a drink or something to eat there’s not much to choose from that are super family friendly.

“This has been coming for a while. We tried to do this in February and then COVID hit. It all went on hold until about six weeks ago. We signed the lease and here we are.”

Mr Kinvig said it had “definitely been a challenge” whipping the old dentist office into shape.

“There’s not a straight wall around the place,” he laughed.

“But it has been a lot of fun. Really turning it into something totally different.

“The kitchen is really open so everyone feels a part of the experience.”

T’amerò will, of course, feature pizza as its main fare, crafted with fresh local ingredients.

The drinks menu will include a range of tap beers, an extensive wine list and cocktails.

“We have a mozzarella menu, focused on local mozzarella, burrata and stracciatella cheeses.

“We’re focusing on doing something pretty unique. We want to put our own spin on things.”

Mr Kinvig said a personal favourite was the prawn pizza with a pineapple and jalapeño base.

T’amerò is at 1/6 Treeview Dr, Burleigh Waters and will be open Thursday-Friday, 4-9.30pm and Saturday-Sunday, 1-9.30pm.
