Biodynamic producer at Millaa Millaa to export from new production facility

A Tablelands dairy will provide work for dozens more jobseekers by investing in one simple project.

A NEW production facility at Mungalli Creek Dairy could soon throw open the doors to an emerging export market and create tens of new jobs.

Marketing and public relations officer Michelle Bell-Turner said the company had been in discussions with buyers in Singapore and Japan but commitment to the provision of local demand remained a priority.

“Ultimately (the new facility) will increase our capacity for new product development as well as have the capacity to be export licensed and to also streamline some of our processes so they are more efficient,” she said.

The new Mungalli Creek Dairy production facility is expected to facilitate an emerging export market for the Far Northern biodynamic producer.

The dairy has just acquired a new farm that will be converted to biodynamic production offering a 180 strong milking heard at Windy Hill.

“It will maintain supply for the local region and look at supplying new markets,” she said.

The construction of the new facility has been made possible by funding made available through a Department of State Development jobs and regional growth grant.

“Over the next two years we will be employing an additional 20 staff,” Ms Bell-Turner said.

The facility is expected to be operational by June or July next year.

“As part of our commitment to supporting locals all the trades and construction people are local,” she said.

Ms Bell-Turner said Mungalli Creek products are becoming more and more popular and demand is constantly increasing.

“More and more people are looking for products that are good for their health and the environment and we tick all those boxes,” she said.

The company employees 40 full-time equivalent employees across the farm at Millaa Millaa, tea rooms at Mungalli and a depot in Manunda.
