Amy Shark says she’s no sellout for joining Australian Idol, announces national tour
The chart-topper has hit back at accusations she sold out by becoming an Australian Idol judge, as she announces a national tour to follow the release of her third album.

Amy Shark has jokingly described herself as shameless while clapping back at accusations she sold out by joining the Australian Idol judging panel.
“I’m a normal person. I like that people get to see that side of me on Idol,” Shark said.
“But I’ll try things, I’ll do things. I have, like, no shame,” she added, with a laugh. “The second you hit that in your life, you’re unstoppable.
“I know there’s still groups out there who see it as a sellout, and all this shit. But I don’t see it like that. I’m proud of myself for taking that step, grabbing the opportunity and doing it my way.”
The chart-topping Australian singer-songwriter with hits including Adore, I Said Hi, Mess Her Up, and Everybody Rise, has announced a national tour to support her new album, Sunday Sadness.
Shark will perform at Melbourne’s Myer Music Bowl on October 18; MAC 02, Hobart, on October 19; ICC Sydney Theatre on October 25; Riverstage Brisbane, on October 26; AEC Theatre, Adelaide, on October 31; and Kings Park, Perth, on November 2.
MasterCard presale opens at 9am on Wednesday; Live Nation presale at 10am on Friday, and general sales on June 4.
Shark’s new album, Sunday Sadness, is released in August.
“I’ve always been drawn to sadness; sad music, sounds, voices, tones and melodies,” Shark said.
“I used to run away from so many things. But now, I’ll sit in the sadness, or the pain, and cry, or talk to someone, and feel better. It’s super healthy.”
Shark said she got push back from her team about naming her concert run, the Sadness Tour.
“Sadness is a really cool tour name,” Shark said. “That’s all it is. And it looks cool on T-shirts.”
