‘Absolute legend’: Friends remember motorbike crash victim

The young Gordonvale man who died in a motorbike crash on the Barron River bridge has been identified as tributes pour in for a great mate.

DEVASTATED friends of a young Gordonvale man killed in a motorbike crash are remembering him as a great mate and “absolute legend”.

Concreter Cody Payne, 22, was riding north on the Captain Cook Highway on Sunday when it is believed he hit a guardrail and went down an embankment about 12.30pm.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tributes have begun pouring in for the former Cairns State High School student who would have turned 23 next week, with friends taking to social media to express their grief.

“You will always be one of my best mates. I still can’t believe this is real,” friend Sneha Chauhan wrote.

“You will be missed every day. My heart breaks to say this so soon but Rest in Peace.”

Another friend Ronnie Collyer said he was “lost for words”.

“You’re an absolute legend mate, you deserved so much more. This world is less brighter without you here,” he said.

“You’re missed more than you could have ever imagined. You will never be forgotten.”

A police spokesman said there were no other vehicles involved in the crash and the Forensic Crash Unit was investigating.
