$999 return flights: Qantas drops US, Canada deals

Qantas has launched a huge international sale in partnership with American Airlines, with hundreds of thousands of discounted seats to six popular destinations across the United States and Canada.
Economy return sale fares start from $999 from Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne to Honolulu.
Passengers can also snap up discounted fares of $1149 from Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne to Los Angeles or $1199 from Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne to San Francisco.
There are also sale prices of $1399 from Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne to Vancouver or $1649 from Sydney and Melbourne to Dallas Fort Worth.
“We know our customers really look forward to our international sales and over the last few weeks we’ve launched sales across Asia and the Pacific Islands as well as to Johannesburg and London,” Qantas CEO International Cam Wallace said.
“Our US sale in March this year had a fantastic response and we’re pleased to be offering customers more discounted seats to destinations across the United States and Canada, in partnership with American Airlines.”
The sale is available for seven days, from Wednesday 21 May through to Tuesday 27 May, unless sold out prior, with travel dates starting from this August through to March next year.
According to consumer watchdog the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, Qantas Group made $1.5b in earnings for the first half of the 2025 financial year.
Qantas Group earned $916m from its domestic operations across both carriers while Jetstar reported a massive earnings surge of about 54 per cent between the first half of the 2024 and 2025 financial years.
Qantas’ profit was boosted by its 80 per cent share of the corporate travel market, playing an important role in Qantas Domestic’s $647m in earnings.
Jetstar is also having a huge sale, with one-way fares to the popular destination of Japan, starting at just $249.
The web-only sale includes discounted one-way fares from Cairns to Osaka from $249, Cairns to Tokyo from $279, Brisbane to Osaka from $309 or Brisbane to Tokyo from $429.
There are also flights from Sydney to Osaka from $339, Sydney to Tokyo via Cairns from $394, Melbourne to Osaka via Cairns from $377, or Adelaide to Tokyo via Cairns from $424.
The Japan sale ends 11.59pm AEST Friday 23 May, unless sold out.
