Fitness trainer Jay Cardiello has worked with the world’s biggest stars — including 50 Cent, Jennifer Lopez, Sofia Vergara, and Kendall Jenner - but don’t expect him to look the part.
The veteran trainer has notched up nearly three decades in the industry, yet he defies the typical image of a trainer in workout gear.
“I don’t wear activewear,” the American told Confidential.
“I go for a smart business casual look. When I work with clients in finance, I’ll wear a suit. It’s all about rapport, meeting people where they are.”
Cardiello’s connection with his clients runs deeper than fitness as he attributes much of his success to personal trauma.
“I’ve been sexually abused, divorced, homeless, bankrupt. I struggled with major depression and was a cutter,” he said.
“But those experiences have helped me build real rapport with people. I thank those who hurt me because without that pain, I wouldn’t be where I am.”
Cardiello, who lived with rapper 50 Cent for four years while training him, believes in redefining what it means to be a celebrity.
“The only difference between celebrities and the rest of us is that they celebrate themselves. We don’t do that enough.”
In Australia for the first time, Cardiello has partnered with wellness brand Kailo to launch a 13-week transformation program focusing on sleep, stress, mindset, nutrition, and fitness.
Originally developed in 2013 and implemented in hospitals and rehab facilities, the program has shown impressive results.
Whether it’s for weight loss, PTSD recovery, or addiction, Cardiello’s goal is simple.
“My job is to be fired. That means I’ve done my job … helped you take control and live your best life.”
