A western Sydney man has allegedly been murdered by the owner of a neighbouring property, with police probing if a fallen tree sparked the altercation.
Edgar Campos, 42, has been charged with the murder of 60-year-old Michael Wickham after police were called to Dargie St, Mount Pritchard due to reports of an altercation outside a home on Saturday afternoon.
Paramedics responded and treated Mr Wickham, but he died at the scene.
Police say 42-year-old Campos was arrested at the scene and taken to Fairfield Police Station, where he was later charged with murder.
Mr Wickham’s father, John Franks, said he was “really upset” and “crook” after losing his only son, who he claimed had been his full-time carer for about a decade.
Mr Franks said his son was loved by many in the community, especially the local kids who he “looked after a lot” and played with their dog.
“(Michael) was a real knockabout bloke,” Mr Franks said.
Police are investigating whether a fallen tree sparked the alleged altercation, after one recently fell from a Streaton Ave property owned by Campos into the neighbouring rental where Mr Wickham and Mr Frank live.
Security footage seen by The Daily Telegraph then shows Mr Wickham arriving at Campos’ home on Dargie St home, two minutes from the other properties, before Campos comes out onto the driveway and confronts the other man.
The footage allegedly shows Campos holding what looks to be a pole, running towards Mr Wickham who had parked in a nearby driveway.
Campos is then allegedly seen to throw the pole to the side before the pair get face-to-face and start pushing and shoving each other.
Separate security footage allegedly shows the pair throwing punches at each other on the driveway before Campos wrestles Mr Wickham to the ground with his legs wrapped around the man from behind.
The pair stay in this position for some time as bystanders crowd around and emergency services arrive.
Footage then shows paramedics attempting to give CPR to Mr Wickham.
Campos did not appear in Parramatta Local Court when his case was mentioned on Monday morning.
He did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody ahead of the matter returning to court on February 27, 2025.
