A Toowoomba butcher caught selling a range of drugs to his former work colleagues and mates was sentenced in court after pleading guilty to a raft of charges including the trafficking of dangerous drugs.
At the Toowoomba District Court on Wednesday, October 30, Kai Douglas Bauer pleaded guilty to 19 counts of supplying a dangerous drug, one count of trafficking drugs, possessing drugs, and possessing drug utensils and items used to facilitate drug deals.
The court heard the 26-year-old did not profit from his crimes which he engaged in over a four-year period between 2018 and 2023 to fund his own methamphetamine and cannabis addictions.
During his sentence remarks, Judge Dennis Lynch QC said police became aware of the low-level drug dealing offences following a raid in 2023 where Bauer co-operated with police and freely provided officers with his phone pin.
Police uncovered Bauer organised 38 drug deals, however the court heard only four deals were proven to have occurred which related to small amounts of meth and cannabis.
The court heard the drug deals related to meth, cannabis, MDMA and involved 10 customers, seven of which were regulars.
Judge Lynch commended Bauer on the efforts he made to address his addiction and warmed him if he was caught committing a drug offence again he would serve actual time behind bars.
“Your future is in your hands,” he said.
Bauer was sentenced to a two-year jail term suspended for three years.
