Meet Kym and Rod Wilson, the couple leading this year’s Christmas carols at Townsville Shopping Centre

With 71 years of carolling between them, Townsville couple Kym and Rod Wilson are ready to bring the magic of Christmas to Townsville Shopping Centre. Read their heartwarming story.

Kym and Rod Wilson lead the ChoralAires, a volunteer choir at the Townsville Choral Society which has been spreading Christmas joy since Townsville Shopping Centre opened almost four decades ago.

Community loved carollers Kym and Rod Wilson will be leading this year’s Christmas carols at Townsville Shopping Centre.

The husband and wife duo have been carolling for a combined 71 years, with Mr Wilson starting in 1982 and Mrs Wilson in 1995.

Mr and Mrs Wilson now lead the Choral Aires, a volunteer choir at the Townsville Choral Society.

Mrs Wilson said she feels blessed to be a part of the long-lasting group.

“The Choral Society being involved in some sort of Christmas carolling goes way back,” Mrs Wilson said.

Mrs Wilson said being able to spread cheer through carols is something she’ll always love.

“You just see the joy on people’s faces; they appreciate the fact that someone’s come to give them some entertainment,” Mrs Wilson said.

In addition to Townsville Shopping Centre, the Choral Aires performs at hospitals, nursing homes, sporting games and schools.

Mrs Wilson said she hopes to see the community come and enjoy the carols at Townsville Shopping Centre.

“I’m so grateful we’ve got so many people from the Choral Aires who are prepared to volunteer their time and come along and sing with us,” Mrs Wilson said.

“A big thank you to everyone who comes along and sings with us.”
