A man has been charged after a fiery crash that killed Toowoomba teenager Heidi Riding last Friday morning.
Police allege that after midnight on July 14, a stolen silver Holden Commodore was driving eastbound on Hursley Rd at Toowoomba when it lost control and crashed into trees near Tor St.
Heidi, the passenger, died at the scene while the 19-year-old driver, of Ipswich, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
He has now been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and manslaughter and is expected to appear in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on July 20.
Heidi’s family last week called for answers after her death and said they pleaded with authorities to let her move to Tasmania to get away from Toowoomba.
Heidi’s sister Tamika Riding described her as “funny, smart and fiercely loyal to all that she loved.”
“She was someone no matter what was happening in her life she would again and again help you first and that’s where a lot of her troubles stemmed from.”
It is understood Heidi was released from detention just seven days before the crash.
“Despite wanting her to be immediately able to move to Tasmania with her parents and family where she could be supported and stable to rehabilitate, she was instructed to stay in Queensland, a place that held many traumatic memories and triggers,” Tamika said.
