A man is in police custody after the body of an 18-year-old man was found in a Palmerston driveway on Saturday morning.

A NT Police spokesman said a 20-year-old man was in custody and assisting police with inquiries into the death.

It comes after police, including Major Crime detectives, renewed calls for information after the man’s body was found.

Police were called to the scene outside a Driver residence near the corner of Waterhouse Cres and Driver Ave about 6.15am on Saturday.

A crime scene was declared and remained for the day, with police remaining in the street on Sunday.

On Sunday, Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Paul Morrissey said the investigation into the death, which was being treated as suspicious, was still in its “infancy”.

He said the 18-year-old man, who was a Driver resident, had suffered head trauma and an autopsy would be completed on Sunday afternoon.

“An initial examination of the deceased identified head trauma and the death was treated as suspicious,” he said.

“The male has since been identified and family notified and the investigation is in its infancy.

“It’s still quite early.”

Sergeant Morrissey said the home the teenager was found at was a vacant property and police believed the time of death was between 12am and 6.15am on Saturday.

“All the streets have been doorknocked, there’s been detectives working from 6.30 yesterday morning until late at night and continuing today,” Sergeant Morrissey said.

“We’re trying to retrace his steps.”

He said the death “would be a shock” and “distressing to see someone dead in the driveway”.

He urged anyone with information to contact police and quote reference 10138849.

“We’re asking anyone with information to contact us.” he said.

“The response has been great so far.”
