A man has been killed while a motorcyclist remains in a critical condition following a horror crash on the outskirts of Alice Springs, the first fatal incident on the Territory’s roads this year.
NT Police are calling for witnesses after a fatal pedestrian strike in Alice Springs on Friday evening at the intersection of Undoolya Rd and Kurrajong Dr.
Police and paramedics were called to a crash between a 26-year-old motorcycle driver and a 40-year-old pedestrian around 8pm.
Despite performing CPR on the 40-year-old, he was declared deceased at the scene.
Witnesses at the scene described a serious crash, with one Alice Springs resident saying the pedestrian was “mangled” while the biker suffered “serious damage”.
The 26-year-old rider of the orange and black KTM off road bike was taken to Alice Springs hospital in a critical condition.
Undoolya Rd was closed for most of the night, but by Saturday morning was reopened.
Detectives from the Major Crash Investigation Unit are now investigating the incident.
They have urged anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or saw the bike being ridden around East Side before 8pm to call police.
