A former black market gun runner has fronted court, after he was arrested with a large drug stash.

Luke Thomas Goldsworthy, who was previously convicted for stealing firearms with the intent to selli them on the black market, found himself in custody again some months after his release.

The 30-year-old Withcott man was sentenced to a six-year jail term in 2022 after pleading guilty to armed burglary and armed robbery, before the Toowoomba District Court.

The Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard Goldsworthy was arrested at a Highfields address in August 2024.

When police entered the home, Goldsworthy attempted to flee out the back door.

At the time, police had a warrant out for his arrest.

On June 21, 2022, Luke Thomas Goldsworthy, then 27, pleaded guilty to enter dwelling with intent by break at night while armed in company and armed robbery in Toowoomba District Court for his involvement in a violent Helidon home invasion that saw 10 firearms stolen.

When he was arrested, the court heard he dropped a small black bag containing 15.3g of Oxandrolone – an anabolic steroid – in the form of 51 tablets.

His original charge of possessing a schedule one drug, exceeding schedule three quantity, was downgraded to a drug possession charge following successful case conferencing.

Goldsworthy pleaded guilty to that charge before court on May 30, via a video link from prison.

The court heard Goldsworthy spent 272 days on remand for a number of crimes.

Solicitor Joe McConnell said there were significant delays in finalising the remaining drug matter because he was waiting on a drug analysis report.

“He’s finalised all his other matters prior to this and the same course of action was taken (to convict and not further punish) on those occasions previously, with time (severed) being taken into account,” he said.

“Had all of the matters been dealt with together on a more urgent basis, the matter may have resolved in a different manner.”

Police Prosecutions agreed with Mr McConnell’s submission.

Mr McConnell said the sentence Goldsworthy was serving for other crimes would run until 2028.

“This will now allow… the parole board to seriously consider whether he should be granted bail on parole again.”

Goldsworthy was convicted of the drug crime and not further punished, given the nine months he had spent on remand.
