A Grovedale woman has scratched her way into a new tax bracket after winning big at her local newsagency.
The woman won $100,000 after purchasing a $5 Safari Sunset ticket at the
Grovedale Newsagency Lotto & Post.
Describing herself as “still in total shock”, the woman said the ticket sat unscratched on her kitchen bench for more than a week before she finally found her “lucky five cent piece”.
“When I finally found it, I scratched the ticket, and I couldn’t believe my eyes. I thought straight away, ‘I was right about my coin’,” she said.
The woman said planned to invest some of her winnings and was considering using the remainder to “pay off a whole year’s worth of rent”.
“I’m also in need of a new phone, so it’s come at a perfect time,” she added.
Josephine McCann, from the lucky Grovedale newsagency, said she was thrilled to have a customer win.
“The feeling is contagious and everyone chats about it for days,” she said.
“It will make a difference to her and her family and that's what counts,” she added.
It comes after a Bellarine couple made headlines at the end of last year for taking home $4.8m from December’s division one draw.
In 2024, there were 142 Instant Scratch-Its top prize winners across The Lott’s jurisdictions who collectively took home more than $11.8 million in top prizes.
