Liberal National Party (LNP) leader Campbell Newman says Anna Bligh and Labor stealing his policy ideas

LIBERAL National Party (LNP) leader Campbell Newman says he's delaying the release of new policies because the Bligh government always pinches them.

LIBERAL National Party (LNP) leader Campbell Newman says he's delaying the release of new party policies because the Bligh government always pinches them.

Mr Newman said the Gold Coast clearly needs more full-time police to cope with the crime wave that's swept the city in recent months.

"People on the Gold Coast have suffered for far too long with an inadequately resourced police service," he told reporters at Palazzo Versace.

"We will be announcing our policing policy prior to the election.

"We announced a major crime squad for the Gold Coast and the premier jumped on the band wagon some time ago.

"In the previous election we've announced helicopters for the Gold and Sunshine coasts and Brisbane and the premier was in the embarrassing situation this week of the Gold Coast City Council bailing her out."

Mr Newman said the government should be putting more long-term measures in place and accused it of taking advantage of Gold Coast ratepayers to fund a six month trial of a police helicopter.

"Every time I announce a policy, the premier jumps on it and grabs it, so you'll forgive me for not giving her any more free hits at the moment."
