Territorians have less than a week left to put in nominations for the prestigious Administrator’s Medal of the Year Awards.

Northern Territory Fire and Emergency Services said in a statement the annual award recognises the “exceptional commitment of extraordinary individuals who dedicate their time to protect the NT community”.

NTFES and NT Police Force staff and volunteers are eligible for the awards.

There are seven nomination categories – four for NT Police, three for NTFES.

NTFES members can receive awards from the Career Firefighter of the Year, Auxiliary or Volunteer Firefighter of the Year, and Emergency Service Employee or Volunteer of the Year categories.

NT Police members can receive awards from the Police Officer of the Year, Police Auxiliary of the Year, Aboriginal community Police Officer of the Year, and Aboriginal Liaison Officer of the Year categories.

NT Administrator Hugh Heggie AO PSM will present the awards later in the year.

NTFES deputy chief executive Keith Fernandez said NTFES staff and volunteers contributed to most emergency responses across the Territory.

“Their dedication, professionalism and tireless efforts provide protection and support to communities when it matters the most,” he said.

“These awards are an opportunity for the community to say thank you and recognise the critical role our agencies play in protecting the community.”

“Whether it’s facing emergencies or preparing the community our agency is full of ordinary people doing extraordinary things and I encourage the community to get behind them this year and nominate now.”

Nominations close on September 4.
