Ky Andrew Bryant faces Toowoomba Magistrates Court for public nuisance, obstructing police

When police responded to reports of a street fight outside a bar in the Toowoomba CBD, officers were confronted by a fiery young man sporting a ‘fighting stance’ - here’s what happened next.

A young Toowoomba man found himself in trouble with the law after a few too many drinks, accompanied by aggressive behaviour, on a Saturday night out on the town.

Toowoomba Magistrates Court was told Ky Andrew Bryant was arrested following an alleged altercation outside the Cork & Lever bar in the early hours of the morning on December 3.

When officers arrived on the scene at 1.30am, the court was told Bryant was in a fighting stance, and was seen pushing a man away and yelling obscenities.

However, the 21-year-old’s aggressive behaviour continued despite the police presence.

The court was told officers struggled to arrest Bryant who continued to try and fight others, yell abuse, and incite others to fight.

While acting as duty lawyer, Jag MacDonald said Bryant acted out of character and had “very little recollection of the event”.

Mr MacDonald said the young man had prior drink driving offences, and was now abstaining from alcohol.

“There’s no anti-social behaviour part for that, he’s not getting out and causing a ruckus regularly,” he said.

“He isn’t able to drink anymore whatsoever. He’s been advised his liver is very affected and he’s been instructed by his doctor he can no longer consume alcohol safely.”

Bryant fronted Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Monday morning, January 29, and pleaded guilty to committing a public nuisance within the vicinity of a licensed venue, and obstructing police while adversely affected in public.

The new dad of an eight-month-old baby was ordered to complete 40 hours of community service within the following six months.

No conviction was recorded.
