The boss of an NDIS provider on the Gold Coast has admitted she has a problem with alcohol after she was busted driving more than four-and-a-half times the legal limit with a child in her vehicle.

Katrina Ann Davidson, 36, the managing director of Trin Quality Care, appeared in Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday, July 15, where she pleaded guilty to a charge of driving under the influence of liquor.

The offence was detected on the evening of on June 25 at Bluejay St, Burleigh Waters.

Police prosecutor Casey Beck told the court officers received a call from a motorist who reported a vehicle driving “erratically” and being involved in a series of near-misses.

The witness followed Davidson to a Guzman y Gomez fast food restaurant, where they saw the defendant was driving with a child in her vehicle, and kept following her right to her final destination.

Police caught up with the defendant at the offence location and she confirmed she had just arrived.

She returned a breath analysis reading of 0.226 per cent blood-alcohol content – more than four-and-a-half times the legal limit.

Defence lawyer Zachary-Mason Salatnay told the court his client had drunk vodka with dinner and was ferrying her children around town for football training.

He said her consumption of alcohol on the night in question occurred in the context of an “abusive family situation”.

“There was no rationality behind the decision [to drive]... She was in a bad place,” Mr Salatnay said.

“She does have an issue with alcohol.”

Mr Salatnay said his client, a single mother, had undertaken a rehabilitation program to deal with her alcoholism, and had completed the Queensland Traffic Offenders Program.

She would be forced to rely on public transport for her employment, and lean on others to assist with transporting her children.

Davidson was fined $1200 and disqualified from driving for six months. No conviction was recorded.

The defendant will need to be subject to an interlock device for 12 months after her disqualification ends, the court was told.
