Kaitey Mcnaught critically injured in horror Charters Towers crash

A Charters Towers schoolgirl remains in hospital with critical injuries after she was involved in a serious crash at the weekend.

Friends are sharing support for Charters Towers schoolgirl Kaitey Mcnaught who continues to fight for her life in hospital after driver blitzed past police to avoid RBT before crashing.

Kaitey Mcnaught, 18, was flown to Townsville University Hospital on Sunday morning with critical head injuries after a four-wheel-drive she was passenger in crashed into trees after it allegedly blitzed past police to avoid a roadside breath test in Charters Towers.

Friend’s of the Blackheath and Thornburgh College student took to social media to pass on their wishes.

“Thoughts and prayers are with you Kaitey,” Neeve Gallagher wrote.

Police officers were standing next to a parked police vehicle on Gill Street about 2.30am on Sunday when they signalled for the Toyota LandCruiser to stop for a roadside breath test.

An 18-year-old woman was flown to Townsville after the vehicle she was a passenger in was involved in a crash in Gill St, Charters Towers, at 2.30am on Sunday, October 25.

The 17-year-old male driver of the LandCruiser allegedly evaded police and continued to travel out of police sight before being discovered a short time later crashed into matured palm trees.

The impact of the crash was so severe the windscreen was popped from its casing and smashed, with only tree stumps left of the palms after the established trees were taken away.

Kaitey was flown to Townsville University Hospital in a critical condition with head injuries where she remains critical but stable.

Forensic Crash Unit is investigating, overseen by the Ethical Standards Command.

Townsville Police District Duty Officer Senior Sergeant Scot Warrick said “all” possible causes would be investigated.

No charges have been laid.
