Paul Pisasale items auctioned, including rare Allan Langer memorabilia

Rare memorabilia from league legend Allan Langer is among a treasure trove of items seized from the former Ipswich mayor.

A footy boot worn by Allan “Alfie” Langer and seized by the Crime and Corruption Commission from jailed former mayor Paul Pisasale is one of 775 items to be auctioned by Ipswich City Council.

The boot, which appears to be from Alfie’s right foot, comes in a handsome glass case and is signed by Langer, one of the greatest halfbacks ever to pull on a jersey.

Also up for grabs is the jersey worn by Alfie in the Broncos’ first grand final win in 1992, in which he scored two tries.

A report to council identified 148 of the most valuable items to be worth $53,985.

They include a precious cricket bat and ball signed by Don Bradman. It’s in a presentation case with the Don’s picture.

The trove includes a Greg Norman golf club and ball, which the Shark donated for a charity auction to mark the opening of the Brookwater golf club he designed.

It was on that day that Norman gave premier Peter Beattie a lesson.

Other auction items include a tennis racket signed by Ash Barty, the world’s No.1 player, a jersey signed by soccer legend Harry Kewell and a sweatband and a tennis ball signed by Pat Cash, the 1987 Wimbledon champ.

There is an autographed photo of Muhammad Ali with a certificate of authenticity, jackets and shirts signed by Olympians Anna Mears, Hayley Lewis, a shoulder bag signed by Susie O’Neill and a signed jumpsuit worn by Olympic long jumper Jai Tareema.

Other items include kitschy paintings and photographs, a set of stuffed toy koalas and some truly awful Indigenous and abstract paintings.

There is a sketch of Wonder Woman, a photograph of a town hall clock, and paintings of a duck and elephant.

There are several cartoons of Pisasale and one of Peter Beattie.

“The Crime and Corruption Commission have informed council that the memorabilia items can be disposed of as council deems most appropriate,” councillors were told.

And there is an agenda note saying Pisasale may claim some of the items back if he “can provide proof that items came into his possession without the use of council funds and were not gifts provided to council”.

It adds: “Where the ownership is unclear, and the items are assessed to have no disposal value it is proposed that these would also be made available to the former mayor.”

A perplexing mystery remains: Where is Alfie’s left boot?
