IAN Macfarlane is set to receive a huge $500,000 boost to his income after being pulled from the golf course to the executive board of a mining lobby group.

Yesterday it became official that Mr Macfarlane would become chief executive officer of the Queensland Resources Council and will be reportedly paid $500,000 each year.

Mr Macfarlane will also receive between $150,000 and $200,000 yearly as part of the Parliamentary Contributory Superannuation Scheme.

The appointment comes after a rocky period for the former minister.

In December last year he attempted to defect from the Liberal Party to the National Party after being dumped from the front bench.

It was a move that was later blocked.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull then cancelled a trip to Toowoomba for a sod turning event marking the start of the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing.

Mr Macfarlane told The Chronicle in May that after his retirement he would "look around for corporate opportunities and ways to use his experience."
