Police have rushed to a bayside shopping centre car park to free a “distressed” baby from a locked car on Friday morning.
The mother left her baby alone in the car at Victoria Point Shopping Centre at Bunker Road.
Shoppers alerted police to the baby who appeared upset at 9.47am.
Witnesses said police acted swiftly by smashing the window and retrieving the distressed baby from the car at 9.55am.
A Queensland Police spokesman said the mother of the child arrived back to the car shortly after police intercepted.
“The mother is assisting police with their inquiries,” a police spokesman said.
Paramedics assessed the baby who did not require further medical attention.
Witness Paul Pasc said he was incredibly proud of QPS.
“The officer smashed the window and when the mother turned up he gave her the biggest dressing-down,” Mr Pasc said.
“These are the things that can result in death, she should have known better.
“Well done police officers.”
Another witness said she understood that no one wants to wake a “sleeping bub”.
“I get it but there is no excuse, truly terrifying things can happen and I can’t believe parents are taking these risks with their babies,” she said.
