A Brisbane woman resident was horrified to find her cat being strangled by a deadly Eastern Brown snake on Wednesday.
In a Facebook post to the Snake Identification Australia group, Anstead resident Rebecca Daynes detailed the moment she found her cat in a terrifying position.
“We found (a) snake tightly coiled around our cat’s neck. (The snake) is injured but still alive,” Ms Daynes explained.
“On the rare occasion (our cat) does manage to escape outside, she typically just lies in the sun and waits for someone to notice and open the door again, so we think the snake must have slithered right past her.
“I did remove the snake myself which, in hindsight is probably the most stupid thing I could have done but adrenaline took over and I didn’t know what else to do. I’m very grateful I didn’t get bitten either.”

After the incident, the deadly snake disappeared into Ms Daynes’ garden and hasn’t been spotted since.
“We back onto bushland so we assume it’s far gone. Hopefully, its will to live and death-defying audacity equals that of our cat and they will both be ok,” Ms Daynes said.
“Truly terrifying.”

On Thursday afternoon, Ms Daynes updated her Facebook post to say her poor cat still hadn’t shown any symptoms or distress.
“Still not completely out of the woods, but we are hopeful,” Ms Daynes said.
“She is very old, frail and has a brain tumour that has slowed her right down.”
