Hundreds of NQ groups sign up for National Redress Scheme

High profile schools, government organisations, churches and disability services are among the hundreds of North Queensland institutions to sign up to the National Redress Scheme. SEE THE FULL LIST >>

HIGH-PROFILE schools, government organisations, churches and disability services are among the hundreds of North Queensland institutions to sign up to the National Redress Scheme.

Across the country there are more than 400 non-government institutions across more than 60,000 sites participating.

Government services, Ryan Catholic College, Blue Care Townsville, Ignatius Park College as well as boarding schools are some of the Townsville organisations that are registered.

The National Redress Scheme has received 9232 applications and made 5487 decisions which includes finalising 4620 payments.

As of January 15, 2021, there had been $385.2m in total payments made to survivors.

Minister for Families and Social Services Anne Ruston acknowledged the achievements of the scheme but said there was work to be done.

“The government is absolutely committed to improving the scheme for survivors and ensuring institutions take responsibility for past wrongs,” she said.

It is not a prerequisite for an institution to be named in the royal commission or in an application for redress in order for it to join the scheme.
