TOOWOOMBA residents will be given an opportunity to have their say on voluntary assisted dying, euthanasia and the aged-care system during a public hearing on May 17.

The hearing is part of a parliamentary inquiry spanning the state, which will canvass communities' and health practitioners' views on end-of-life services.

Hundreds of online submissions were made to the committee before the cut-off date last month, with Darling Downs residents adding their opinions.

"Euthanasia is abhorrent and should not be allowed," Stanhope Jonsson wrote in his submission.

"May sanity prevail and life (be) preserved not taken."

"After witnessing multiple family members die from cancer, as well as see patients suffer with a chronic terminal illness, I think voluntary assisted dying should definitely be legalised in Qld," resident Karli Hyder said in her submission.

"If a person is of sound mind, they can make their own decisions, then I see nothing wrong with them being able to die with dignity and know they no longer need to suffer."

The hearing will be held at Burke and Wills Hotel at 12.30pm. Guests must register online at bit.ly/2PNep22.
