Hinchinbrook fire: Farmer burned in controlled blaze on rural property

An elderly Hinchinbrook farmer injured during a controlled burn has been airlifted to Townsville.

An elderly Hinchinbrook farmer injured during a controlled burn has been airlifted to Townsville.

Townsville Health and Hospital Service confirmed on Tuesday that the 70-year-old man had been flown from Ingham Hospital to Townsville University Hospital on Monday afternoon.

A THHS spokesman said the man was listed in a stable condition.

Queensland Ambulance Service said the man was injured during a controlled burn on the property on Christies Road off the Bruce Highway at 10.22pm.

Initial reports were that the man had suffered burns to about 22 per cent of his body, including to an arm and face.

The man was airlifted by the Queensland Government Air (QGAir) rescue helicopter.
