An unemployed Gold Coast dad has been remanded in custody after being charged with 11 offences, including possessing a large quantity of methamphetamine, just days after receiving bail regarding a prior set of allegations.

Southport man Hayden Terrence Evans, 25, formerly of Tweed Heads, appeared in the dock at Southport Magistrates Court earlier in November facing 11 new charges.

They included, most seriously, possessing a schedule 3 quantity of a schedule 1 dangerous drug, four counts of entering premises and committing or intending to commit an indictable offence, possessing a category D/H/R weapon, and unlawful use of a motor vehicle, as well as sundry offences.

Mr Evans was arrested and remanded in custody on November 5, with the most serious of the new allegations being that he was found in possession of about 30g of meth during a raid on his residence, the court heard.

The new charges came just eight days after he received bail, on October 28, for alleged offending against the Bail Act 1980.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Nick Wang highlighted that the new alleged offending was committed in both the days before and after his previous grant of bail, and that the alleged offending was escalating.

Mr Evans’ 15 pre-existing charges, prior to November 6, included allegations he possessed MDMA in excess of 2g, and unlawfully used motor vehicles in November 2024 and August of this year, according to court documents.

Police allege Mr Evans used the van allegedly stolen in August to conduct a series of raids in which he pilfered items including e-bikes, which he intended to pawn for drug money.

Mr Evans has not entered any pleas to his combined 26 charges.

Defence lawyer Mark Savic, of local firm Guardian Criminal Law, made a bail application on his client’s behalf.

He told the court his client’s criminal history, which involved prior drug offending unrelated to the current charges, only started “relatively recently” because of his client’s meth addiction.

“He’s very frustrated with himself, he can see his life is unravelling before his eyes,” the lawyer said.

Mr Savic said his client had recently received a medical cannabis prescription in a bid to wean himself off meth, and had been making efforts at rehabilitation prior to his remand in custody

Mr Savic said his client would be pleading guilty to the charges and was at risk of spending more time on remand than he would ultimately be required to serve at a future sentence.

He proposed a stringent set of bail conditions, however, after Magistrate Pam Dowse suggested she would likely refuse the application, the bail application was withdrawn (once bail is refused, a new application can only be made in the magistrates court if it can be demonstrated there has been a material change of circumstance).

Magistrate Dowse said a bail application may be looked at more favourably in a week after Mr Evans had ridden out the worst of his meth withdrawals.

Mr Evans’ charges returned to court on Tuesday, November 11, where a new bail application ultimately progressed.

However, Magistrate Louisa Pink refused the application, finding Mr Evans to be an unacceptable risk of reoffending, and noting the police case against him to be strong regarding the most serious allegations.

His charges returned to court on November 27.
