A Toowoomba father spent a night in the watch house after he was arrested for beating his wife inside their Middle Ridge home.
The day after the man was arrested for the violent crime (February 8), Harminder Singh Jaswal, pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm and wilful damage.
During the domestic violence proceeding, police prosecutor Anita Page said Jaswal flew into a rage because his dinner was not spicy enough.
Prosecutor Page said the pair had ordered Indian take-out food, and despite the woman making seven different sauces for Jaswal, he claimed none were spicy enough.
Jaswal beat the woman in the head, causing bruising to her face and a cut to her ear.
Prosecutor Page said Jaswal also punched a number of holes in walls.
The court heard the 37-year-old had a drinking problem and he was “deeply embarrassed” about the assault.
When sentencing, Magistrate Claire Kelly said she took into account his early plea, lack of criminal history and time spent in the watch-house, before ordering him to carry out a 15-month probation order.
Magistrate Kelly told the man he needed to genuinely make changes in his life to address any underlying issues that may have contributed to his offending.
