A woman is fighting for her life after a motorbike and car crash on the M1.

Emergency services were called to the collision on the Pacific Motorway near the Smith St off-ramp around 8.30am on Friday.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesman said they assessed a woman in her 50s who was riding the motorbike.

She was rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital with life-threatening injuries to the right side of her body.

A Gold Coast police spokesman said officers had blocked one lane of the M1 southbound to clear the area.

At around 9am traffic was backed up to Upper Coomera.

The police spokesman said the lane had reopened by 10am and traffic was starting to ease.
