A tireless charity campaigner who has travelled across Australia to protect children now needs the community’s help as his wife of 48 years succumbs to cancer.
The nation’s most famous mower man, Claude Harvey, has spent more than 20 years pushing his trusty cutter around the country to raise money for Bravehearts.
His beloved wife Carol has been by his side through it all.
Sadly, after being diagnosed with stage four cancer earlier this year, family and friends report she only has days left to live.
Community organisation Gold Coast Reach Out has started an online fundraiser on behalf of Mr Harvey to pay for his wife’s funeral.
The GoFundMe page said the mower man needed the community’s help to give Carol “the farewell she deserves”.
“It is hard for Claude to be in a position where he needs donations after spending his life raising funds to help others,” it stated.
“But he has always been selfless, and we must now come together to support him in his time of need.
“We can lift this burden from Claude together.”
Mr Harvey - who was named Senior Australian of the Year in 2022 - said the past couple of months had been tough on his family.
“It has been a pretty hard time. (Carol) was only diagnosed on the 24th of January,” he said.
“She has always been there for me and I have always been there for her.”
The mower man thanked the community for their “love and support”.
So far more than $3000 has been raised of the $8500 fundraising goal.
