Tributes flow for Pimpama, Gold Coast man Trevor Davis, 36, killed in outback Queensland mining tragedy near Cloncurry

Tributes are flowing for a Gold Coast man killed in Wednesday’s outback Queensland mining tragedy, with friends and colleagues remembering him as a “beautiful soul”.

‘No sign’ of missing Queensland miners

ONE of the men killed in Wednesday’s outback Queensland mining tragedy is a Gold Coast man being remembered by friends and colleagues as a “beautiful soul”.

Pimpama resident Trevor Davis, 36, was found dead alongside colleague and Bucca resident Dylan Langridge, 33, after their ute plummeted 15 metres into a void deep below ground at the Dugald River underground mine near Cloncurry.

Mates and colleagues recalled Mr Davis as a “beautiful soul” who was “one of the good ones”.

The Barminco employees had been declared missing at 1pm on Wednesday, with police confirming the incident happened at 8am that day.

Rescue crews found the vehicle that the two missing men were driving on Thursday morning.

Mr Davis and Mr Langridge were found dead shortly before 5pm on Thursday.

In the wake of the tragic discovery of their bodies, Mr Davis’ personal Facebook page has been flooded with an outpouring of grief.

Friend Sammy Stevens wrote: “Was only nine days ago we were sinking (beers) together and having a punt. Brother, it has been a privilege and won’t be the same without you.”

Dave Summers wrote: “RIP Trev. I’m lost for words mate. Condolences to your family, I had a few JD’s for ya. Up the knights bro.”

Jennifer Wilson posted: “Trev...very sad you were a beautiful soul.”

Terry Usher wrote: “My heart’s broken mate. Love ya.”

Jade Polsen added: “Such terrible news to hear. Sending prayers to your family and friends. It was an absolute pleasure getting to know you and work along side you. May you rest peacefully.”

Blake Fletcher said “have a beer up there for me champ”.

In a haunting post, his father Peter Davis wished his son New Year wishes last year.

“Happy New Year’s Trev. Hope you have a great new year and safe 2023. Luvya. Dad and Tracey XOXO.”

Mr Davis, originally from Coffs Harbour, had previously worked as an underground miner for Redpath Mining Contractors and Engineers and at Lady Loretta Mine in outback Queensland, 114km north west of Mt Isa.

He went to school at Bishop Druitt College in Coffs Harbour.

On Friday morning, police were preparing a report for the coroner.

Police assisted specialist staff from Mines Inspectorate and Resource Safety and Health Queensland on Wednesday and Thursday to retrieve the vehicle.

Resources Safety and Health Queensland is investigating the circumstances.
