WHEN she was young, Lili Greer would regularly pen her thoughts for her mother when they were apart.

This time around it was different, writing a final heartbreaking letter after Tina Greer’s body could not be found following her suspected death at the hands of her bikie boyfriend.

“I like to think of her reading it and smiling. Strange I know,” Lili said, speaking to the Bulletin.

Her mother Tina was 32 when she headed west to Spicer’s Gap to visit her boyfriend, patched Finks bikie Les ‘Grumpy’ Sharman, on January 18, 2012. She was never seen again.

Her vehicle was found days later abandoned at Governor’s Chair Lookout, off Spicers Gap Rd, west of Beaudesert.

Sharman – a member of the Finks for 26 years – died in a traffic crash in 2018. Police regarded him as a suspect in her disappearance.

Lili organised a memorial with close family and friends at Tweed Heads in April. Lili has kept the bundle of letters she shared with her mother.

Her final words to her mother, handwritten on paper, were placed in a box buried in a plot meant for urns of ashes. She has kept those thoughts private until sharing some now.

“The older I get the more I realise the lengths you went to for me,” Lili wrote in the letter.

“I have played out the end a million times, every possible scenario and everything that could have been done to prevent it. I even dream of it.

“I know it was him (Sharman).

“I’m sorry we couldn’t spend our lives together.

“I visited where your car was found and went to our secret spot, I just didn’t want to leave you.

“I’m sorry you had to go through all of it, I wish I was older, I’m sorry about the s… that got put on you.

“I feel like you carried the burden of so much that wasn’t yours, you still kept going. Nothing could stop you.

“I’m sorry we still haven’t found you.”

Lili, now in her 20s, shared about 50 letters with her mother, who lived at Beechmont in the Gold Coast hinterland.

The 22-year-old now lives interstate, and admits to feeling “deeply guilty”, knowing what she does now about the lead-up to her mother’s death.

She believes the case could have been solved if her mother was “reported missing earlier and his property was searched earlier”.

“I also feel as though if my mum had a better support network around her at the time, she could have left him (Sharman) safely. She mainly confided in me about his violence and I didn’t know how to help her get away from him. So I feel guilty because a lot could have been done on everyone’s behalf to prevent this from happening as well as find her.”

Lili cried when Sharman was killed in the road accident three years ago, not because she was grieving his death, but because of what he might have known and taken to his grave.

Police last year revealed they believed Sharman murdered Ms Greer – something her daughter has always thought, revealing the bikie was violent with her mum, and threatened her life before.

In August 2020 police raided a Bonogin property, formerly owned by a Lone Wolf bikie, but called off the search after three days.

“That was the longest three days of my life,” Lili said of the search.

Lili organised a memorial this year “because it was the right thing to do” and she wanted to “put her to rest emotionally”.

“I feel like it’s really unjust to not have a funeral for someone and never look back at their life. It’s kind of just been pending all of these years. I feel like that’s so disrespectful just to her. I had a memorial for her and was able to speak, and say my thoughts to her, the life she had. I feel a lot better about that side of things. I try not to ever think about it, as much as possible.

“I bought her a plaque, even though her body has never been found. I got everyone to write things that they wanted to say to my mum. I put all of those in a box in the ground. I wrote her a letter and put that where the body would go. It was like a proper funeral.”

Lily said she would welcome the idea of an inquest if it shed new light on the investigation, but admitted it was very draining.

“It’s just re-traumatising every time I have to go through it again,” she said.

Detective Inspector David Briese, of Ipswich District Crime Services, said police were still investigating and searching for Ms Greer.

“The case is not closed and we continue to work towards finding Tina and prosecuting anyone involved in her disappearance,” he said.

“A reward of $250,000 still stands for information that leads to the location of Tina and/or persons responsible for her disappearance and I continue to appeal on behalf of Tina’s family, the many investigators who have worked on this case and the community, to anyone who has information to come forward.”

A report has been sent to the Coroner

A Coroners Court of Queensland spokeswoman said Coroner Donald MacKenzie was awaiting further investigation material.
