The community has rallied around a “champion bloke” who had his electric scooter stolen while he was raising money for the weekend’s Walk for Jack charity event.

Matt Steley’s scooter was stolen from his support vehicle while he was completing a 24-hour run challenge to raise money for the Jack Beasley Foundation.

The foundation was established to educate and drive change around youth violence in the wake of Jack Beasley’s stabbing death in Surfers Paradise in 2019.

The organisation’s founder, Jack’s father Brett Beasley, slammed the theft as “disgusting”.

“It’s an absolute low life, grub act as far as we’re concerned,” Mr Beasley said.

“Matt has done a fantastic job in fundraising – for him to lose his scooter while doing that is disgusting.”

A GoFundMe page was launched to replace the scooter and has collected $1000 in just 24 hours.

Mr Steley said he was “amazed and shocked” by the community support.

He wanted the focus to remain on the work of the Jack Beasley Foundation.

“I just want to get a cheap scooter and the rest will be donated to the foundation,” the volunteer said.

Mr Beasley said he would “100 per cent” ensure Mr Steley’s wheels were replaced.

“We hope there’s a company on the Gold Coast that will reach out and do him a decent deal on one of these scooters,” the founder said.

“He’s a champion bloke, for him to have this happen, it’s really bad.

“Hopefully some scooter company can come forward and look after him with one, or even donate one would be better.”
