Tattooed triathlete Luke Lythgoe accused of stealing cars, jewellery in crime spree

A former Southport triathlete has been granted bail to attend rehab after an alleged crime spree across southeast Queensland over a five-week period.

A former triathlete has been ordered to stand trial on more than 20 charges after an alleged crime spree across southeast Queensland.

The man was granted bail on Wednesday to attend rehabilitation.

Southport’s Luke Lythgoe, 36, is accused of stealing cars, jewellery, licence plates and committing fraud across Gold Coast and Brisbane suburbs over a five-week period in 2020.

His more than 20 charges included unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing and fraud – dishonestly obtaining property.

During a brief mention in the Southport Magistrates Court, Lythgoe was ordered to stand trial in the Southport District Court at a date to be advised.

He did not enter a plea to the charges.

Magistrate Sarah Thompson granted Lythgoe bail so he could attend a rehabilitation facility.

Luke Lythgoe, 36, is a former triathlete.

The 36-year-old’s remaining charges not subject to committal were adjourned to November 7.

The heavily tattooed Southport man described himself in a blog as a “plant based triathlete” and “recovering addict”.

The blog went on to describe the father-of-two’s athletic achievements, including once being an Australian representative at triathlon.

Lythgoe was also an accomplished marathon runner and previously sponsored by Garmin Australia.
